Named the Outstanding Small Rodeo in the nation four years in a row, the Annual Rooftop Rodeo will kick off with a colorful parade on Tuesday, July 10 at 10:30 am in downtown Estes Park. Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) cowboys compete in saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, bareback bronc riding, barrel racing and bull riding. Midway activities begin at 5:30 pm with the rodeo starting at 7:30 pm

Estes Park Wool Market 2012

Estes Park is home to one of the largest all-natural fiber markets in North America. The Estes Park Wool Market features demonstrations, contests, a children’s tent, exhibits and the sale of fiber animals and products from their wool. Now in its 21st year, the market draws more than 10,000 spectators during the two-day mid-June event.

Watch as an announcer provides play-by-play explanations of the many herding techniques by sheep herding canines used by these animals and their handlers. In the Children’s Tent, visitors – young and old alike – participate in rope weaving, spinning and loom weaving.

Demonstrations during the weekend include shearing, fiber preparation, spinning and weaving. You can even learn how to pack a llama for hiking or hunting. Sheep, llama, alpaca, and Cashmere & Angora goat competitions and fleece contests are held throughout the weekend. For the shoppers, more than 50 booths are filled with fleeces, raw fibers, novelty knitting and crocheting yarns, as well as finished coats, scarves, hats, shawls, and fiber processing equipment.

The Arabian horse is the royalty of the horse world. With a reputation for intelligence, spirit and stamina, the breed has a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage. Watch this proud breed compete at the Estes Park Arabian Horse Show July 2-3, 2011 at the Fairgrounds at Stanley Park.

The competition begins at 8 a.m. and admission is free. Horses and their riders will compete in various competitions, including performance, halter, trail, reining and dressage. This is the Region 8 qualifying show for 2012.

New this year is the first “Meet an Arabian Horse” event. Beginning at Noon on Saturday, July 2, the public is invited to introduce themselves to this amazing breed. Bring your camera for this free photo opportunity.

Saturday evening, July 2 is movie night. Red Barn Arabians will sponsor the showing of the newly released “Path to Glory: the Rise and Rise of the Polish Arabian Horse.” With interviews and rare archival footage, this documentary follows the triumphant saga of how a beleaguered nation rose up to become the pinnacle of Arabian horse breeding.” The movie will be show under the grandstand.

Children 12 and under get a “hands-on” experience at the Painted Horse Contest Sunday, July 3 beginning with sign-in at 10:30 a.m. Using non-toxic paint, five teams will create live works of art using Arabian horses as their canvas. Elk Fest features bugling competitions, educational areas, seminars, live music, a Mountain Man Rendezvous, Native American storytelling & music, a display of raptors, visits from Wolfwood Refuge & Rescue, and guided elk-viewing tours.
