Annual Estes Park Fishing Derby

The 23rd Annual Fishing Derby is held at Lake Estes, which is stocked with trout, mostly rainbows, from the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) the day prior to the event. Don Fitch, pictured above, actually caught a 2 lb. 2 oz, 18 1/2″ brown trout native to Lake Estes.

The Fishing Derby is for all fishermen ages. Approximately 250 – 300 people attend each year.

There will be a contest for “largest fish” in four age groups – for one male and one female – with prizes donated by Estes Park merchants. Categories are: ages 9 and under; 10–15 years; 16–59, and 60 and over. A grand prize will be awarded for the biggest catch overall.

The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD) in conjunction with the CDOW sponsors the event to EVRPD youth athletic programs.

Registration is $4 per person on the day of the event. Pre-registration is $3.

Estes Park Cup-IWPA Championships

Dogs compete to see who can pull the most weight 16 feet. They pull a wheeled cart on an earthen surface, or a sled on snow. The handler has no contact with the dog during the pull, so it is up to the dog’s willingness to pull. Safety of the dog is of paramount concern.

Savor Estes Park

Savor Estes Park Map 27 excited restaurants are lined up to participate in “Savor Estes Park“. So, save the five Thursdays of March (March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31) from 4:30 to 7:30 pm.

Start the afternoon with a matinee special of three different movies at The Reel Mountain Theater at 1 pm. Participating restaurants will be serving a 6-inch plate of some of their specialty foods with a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.

The cost for each restaurant is $3 per person. Residents or visitors are encouraged to visit two or three different restaurants each week that they haven’t been to or go to your favorite restaurants and enjoy their fabulous cuisine at a very reasonable price.

And.. don’t forget to finish the night with a stop for dessert! All you have to do is show up, let the restaurant know that you are there for “Savor Estes Park” and you will get their specialty plate for only $3.

Memorial Day Weekend in Estes Park

From Saturday through Monday, May 25 to May 28, check out Bond Park in the center of downtown. More than 90 local, statewide, and national artisans showcase their talents in an annual, Art Market.

Don’t miss the Gallery Row that features work from local art galleries. Live music and food are available throughout the weekend. Art Market hours are Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 6 pm; Monday 9 am to 3 pm.

On the East side of town, Barn W at the Fairgrounds at Stanley Park is the site for the Estes Park Antiques and Collectibles Show, another traditional event that kicks off the summer season in Estes Park. About 2,000 people take the opportunity to check out vendor booths filled with an array hidden treasures: jewelry, rare glass, books, fine antique furniture, and wood burning stoves. The Antiques and Collectibles Show hours are 10 am to 5 pm on all three days of the holiday weekend. Admission is $1.
